The first thing you notice about this Joseph jacket is just how soft the black leather is. I’d date it to the 1990s. It has a relaxed, straight cut that falls below the hip, with neatly topstitched lapels, three dark buttons and flap pockets. The leather has a subtle sheen that catches the light in the folds of the sleeves.
For me, this is the sort of outerwear worth investing in. I’d wear it open over a fine roll-neck and jeans during the day, then button it over a silk slip dress for the evening. It’s an elegant, understated piece from a British label I love, and one I’d reach for again and again.
Details
- 100% black leather outer, fully lined.
- Labelled French 48. I usually wear a UK 16–18 and it fits me, though I’d recommend it for a UK 14–16 for a more relaxed fit.
- Photographed on a UK 8 mannequin, so it appears looser in the photographs.
- Some surface marks to the soft leather, including at the shoulder, upper back and sleeve, as shown in the close-ups. To my eye, they take nothing away from the overall elegance of the jacket.
