Hot bubblegum pink and wonderfully voluminous sleeves make this 1980s Yves Saint Laurent Rive Gauche jacket an absolute joy. The goatskin leather is exceptionally soft and supple, with a loose swing shape that finishes around the waist. Broad notched lapels, patch pockets and neat topstitching give definition to the fluid silhouette.
I particularly love the sleeves. Pleats at the shoulders create a rounded, almost balloon shape before narrowing into broad cuffs. They finish around bracelet length, leaving the perfect space for a statement cuff or two. Fully lined in pink acetate, the jacket falls open with no fastenings.
It has all the exuberance I love about the ’80s, with the sophistication that makes Saint Laurent so special. I’d happily wear it over a white T-shirt and high-waisted jeans during the day, then slip it over a simple black dress for the evening. A collector’s piece with plenty of everyday possibilities, and one that would make me smile every time I put it on.
