HELEN STOREY 1980s 1990s Ravers Embellished Bra Top

A true piece of late 1980s / early 1990s London fashion history from Helen Storey, one of the most exciting and influential British designers of the era. Alongside contemporaries such as John Galliano, Storey helped define a period of expressive, theatrical dressing that blurred the line between fashion, nightlife and performance.

This embellished bra top captures that spirit perfectly. Constructed in black satin with structured cups, the surface is densely embroidered with tonal sequins that catch the light with an oil-slick shimmer. Dramatic hand-beaded tassels fall from the cups and sides, moving fluidly with the body and giving the piece an unmistakable sense of after-dark glamour.

It feels deeply connected to the decadent club culture and “raving jet set” aesthetic of the period. A piece designed not for subtlety, but for entrances. Worn now, it feels surprisingly modern again styled beneath an oversized blazer, with low-slung tailoring, vintage denim or layered over sheer mesh.

An exceptionally rare surviving example of British designer clubwear from a hugely important moment in London fashion history.
