Before Monty Don became a world class gardener, he was a world class costume jeweller. His Beauchamp Place store in the heart of Knightsbridge, was the place to pick up sparkling baubles and Diana, Princess of Wales, was just one of his famous fans. All of the major department stores stocked his designs and the V&A museum has several pieces in their permanent collection.
Sadly the recession put an end to the brand in 1987 but this fabulous brooch still stands the test of time.
This large design is in the shape of a shield, with diamante crystals covering the edge and crossing at the centre of the piece. Silver metal maple leaves jut out of the four sections of the shield. There are no stones missing and the brooch looks just as good on the reverse side as it does the front. The brooch is marked with the Monty Don brand sign at the centre of the back of the brooch.
