This very fine leather belt by Banana Republic epitomes a piece of history from the US brand that is easily forgotten.
The company was started in 1978 by Mel and Patricia Ziegler, who started selling surplus vintage clothing with a military or safari vibe, creating a catalogue which showcased fictitious back stories about the products they were selling. The company was bought by The Gap in 1983 and the brand rolled out safari style stories across the US, showcasing similar themed fashion and accessories, which were made all over the world.
This 80s dark leather belt by ‘Banana Republic, the travel and safari company’; the logo embossed on the belt’s interior, is in excellent condition. It has interesting details to it, in the form of western style metal work at the tip of the belt and a solid hardware buckle. It is the sort of accessory you can cinch over any outfit and get on with the rest of you day.
The item was photographed on a UK10 mannequin with a 28″ waistline.
Made in Italy.
